These songs were written by Primary 4-7 pupils from schools in Aberdeenshire and celebrate the local environment, landscapes and culture of North East Scotland. All of the music is free to stream and download!
The songs are the result of a Youth Music Initiative project called 'Where I Am' led by Jenny Sturgeon and Adam Ross. Pupils spent time both outdoors and indoors, learning about the idea of inspiration and how to write lyrics, chord patterns and melodies. The classes were also introduced to music technology and spent time creating percussion instruments from recycled materials before performing and recording their finished songs. Each group have created their own artwork which can be seen by clicking on the individual songs above.
The project is delivered and supported by Live Life Aberdeenshire, Creative Scotland and The Scottish Government. Huge thanks to all of the pupils and teaching staff for their enthusiasm and creativity! Additional thanks to the Balmedie Sand Bothy and RSPB Scotland for their help in hosting the workshops.
Aberdeenshire's Youth Music Initiative programme creates access to high-quality music-making opportunities for young people aged 0-25 years, particularly for those that would not normally have the chance to participate. They enable young people to achieve their potential in or through music making, and support the development of the youth music sector for the benefit of young people.
