about
These songs were written by young people aged 10-12 from Aberdeenshire and celebrate the local environment and landscapes of North East Scotland. All of the music is free to stream and download!
The songs are the result of a Youth Music Initiative project called 'Where I Am' led by Jenny Sturgeon, Adam Ross and Grant Anderson. Participants spent time outdoors at Crathes Castle and Aden Country Park, learning about the idea of inspiration and how to write lyrics, chord patterns and melodies. The groups were also introduced to music technology in order to make recordings of their finished songs.
The project is delivered and supported by Live Life Aberdeenshire, Creative Scotland and The Scottish Government. Huge thanks to all of the participants for their enthusiasm and creativity! Additional thanks to the National Trust for Scotland at Crathes Castle, Jane Lilley and The River Dee Trust, Douglas Gooday and the Aberdeenshire Council Countryside Ranger Service, Aden Country Park, Heitor Alves from the ARC recording studio and Susan Whyte.
Aberdeenshire's Youth Music Initiative programme creates access to high-quality music-making opportunities for young people aged 0-25 years, particularly for those that would not normally have the chance to participate. They enable young people to achieve their potential in or through music making, and support the development of the youth music sector for the benefit of young people.
