These songs were written and performed by primary school pupils in Aberdeenshire, celebrating the local environment, landscapes and culture of North East Scotland. All of the music is free to stream and download.
The songs are the result of a Youth Music Initiative project called 'Where I Am' led by Jenny Sturgeon and Adam Ross. Pupils spent time both outdoors and indoors, learning about the idea of inspiration and how to write lyrics, chord patterns and melodies. The classes were also introduced to music technology and spent time learning parts on various instruments in order to perform and record their finished songs.
The project is delivered and supported by Live Life Aberdeenshire, Creative Scotland and The Scottish Government. Huge thanks to everyone involved.
Aberdeenshire's Youth Music Initiative programme creates access to high-quality music-making opportunities for young people aged 0-25 years, particularly for those that would not normally have the chance to participate. They enable young people to achieve their potential in or through music making, and support the development of the youth music sector for the benefit of young people.
